Stan Bohannon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Collier Funeral Home - Benton on Mar. 4, 2026.
Surrounded by his loving family and grounded in his faith, Stan Bohannon, 77, of Benton, Kentucky, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Stan graduated from North Marshall High School in 1966 and Murray State University in 1971 with a degree in Industrial Technology, and served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1971 to 1977. He later retired from PEBCO, Inc., where he designed heavy-loading machinery and served as a designer-draftsman supervisor.

Stan was a lifetime member of Briensburg Baptist Church where, over the years, he taught Sunday School, served as a greeter, and sang in the choir. A cherished part of his childhood was spent fishing with his dad below Kentucky Dam. In retirement, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch watching the birds, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and UK basketball, traveling with his beloved wife, Brenda, and-most of all-spending time with his grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Max "Red" Bohannon and Jacqueline (Clayton) Bohannon, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Paula Jane Freeman.

Stan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda (Lane) Bohannon, of Benton, Kentucky; his daughter, Dana Renee Titsworth (Alan), of Benton, Kentucky; his son, Tony Lane Bohannon, of Paducah, Kentucky; his daughter-in-law, Tammy Bohannon, of Paducah, Kentucky; and his son, Timothy Linn Bohannon (Tara), of Palma, Kentucky.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Audrey Ann Wynn (Michael), Weston Alan Titsworth (Tosha), Haley Brooke Thurman (Brandon), Taylor Paige Bohannon, Alex Michael Bohannon, Chaney Beth McElya (Zac), Lucas Lane Bohannon (Katie), Lacey JoAnn Bohannon, and Bella Sophia Bohannon; ten beloved great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th Street, Benton, KY 42025. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Collier Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2026, with the Reverends Brian Sims and Brad Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Birmingham Cemetery in Briensburg, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Birmingham Cemetery Fund, c/o Iris Sims, 492 Denver Lane, Benton, KY 42025.

I choose to remember the good times. Here are a few with me.

I met Stan in high school in 1964. We were on the baseball team together. Then we bowled at Gateway Lanes in Draffenville, Ky. One night in 1965 at the lanes 5 of us were just chilling. Stan, Ron Coursey, Johnny Ross ,Barry Travis and I about 9 pm when 5 tourist girls came in. So we engaged them. I introduced myself as R J Strumfelder taking a survey on why 5 girls were alone on a Friday nite when there were 5 healthy guys just sitting there. Stan got the blonde. He dated her for several months.
Stan fished. He called me one evening to come to his house in Draffenville. I got there. He said look at this. It was a catfish in a cooler. @ 25 lbs. I told him that was wonderful but I had even caught one that big. He said he used that one for bait. Spiked on the garage wall was a 75 lb fish he had caught.
Later we were in the same Army Reserve Unit in Paducah. I did a psychiatric internship as part of my duty. That is where I met Brenda, as she worked at the office. I never let him forget that I met her first.
I will miss Stimey, as we called each other, and may he rest in peace. Loved the guy
After he graduated college he interviewed for a bank job in Benton. When the man told him the salary. Stan said ,"I make more than that fishing"
We were to have a selective service draft party and watch the lottery drawing which determined our order of entering the draft. 1969. We had our refreshments and were getting all set to party.. First Number... Stan Bohannon. Party interupted
