Just learned of Stan's passing in the Sawdust alumni magazine. Stan was one of my favorite professors at SFA in the early '70s. I took a course of his on black American literature and still have some of those novels from the course. One day we arrived at class and Stan introduced us to a surprise guest -- an old black blues guitarist named Mance Lipscomb from Navasota. We circled our chairs around Mance and listened to him play the remainder of the session. It was a true blessing to have known Stan in that season of my life. May God bless his family.

I took almost every English class he taught at SFA. He was my favorite professor and mentor while I was there. He was very good at teaching and inspired me in many ways. My husband and I babysat Emily when she was about two years old on several occasions. He and Nancy were/are awesome. We were even invited to some of their famous parties at their beautiful home in Chireno. He gave me one of his record albums, "Remember Me". Dr. Stan Alexander, I promise that we will always remember you. Rest in peace and know that you made a huge impact on many lives. Jean Higginbotham and Bill Monroe.

To Dr. Alexander's family. I was listening to my East Texas String Ensemble album and remembering the magic of Dr. Alexander's voice. They were my favorite band while I was at SFA 1975-1978. Heck, they are my favorite band of all time. I idolized them. I had my own band, The Texas Footstompers, and we tried to play every song the String Ensemble played. I always sang Dr. Alexander's parts. I wanted to be him.
Dr. Alexander will never be forgotten by the students he taught, the fans he sang to, and by me.

Nancy, Alex and family my thoughts are with you guys. The brief moments I got to spend with Stan made a big impression. I've been thinking about him over the past couple of years. I'm sorry I didn't look harder. Good be on you all

Stan was a light for so many and in many different areas - literature, politics, music, and life. He shared that light with everyone he met. I never had a class with him directly - though friends shared the good bits with me. I did get to enjoy the music and his and Nancy's company from time to time. "Remember you?" - so many will. Condolences to Nancy, Alex, and Emily and all of his family and thank you all for sharing him and his huge spirit.

Some of my fondest childhood memories have Stan in them...parties at his old house in Chireno where I would play with my friend...his daughter Emily...and listen to music. I will always remember a fun trip I took with Stan, Nancy & Emily to the Winedale Festival. Stan was well loved by the Harrison family, and he will be missed.

My husband and I read of Dr. Alexander's death in the paper today. We both attended SFA in the 70's and The East Texas String Ensemble was one of our favorite "bands." This past weekend we attended a gospel brunch at The Hilltop Cafe outside Fredericksburg where I commented to my him,"Their harmonizing reminds me of ETSE" It brought back happy memories. How little we realize the life long effect we may have on the people with whom our lives intersect. Dr. Alexander was one of these people.

I took graduate classes from Stanley at SFA. He was always insightful and interesting and had a dry wit. My sympathy to his family
