Stanley Baker

1946 - 2022

Baker, Stanley, - 75, of Egg Harbor Township, Passed away at home on Thursday, May 12, after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer. His wife and son were at his side when he went to be with our Lord. Stan was born in Atlantic City to Audrey Wyand and Stanley Baker. Stan grew up in Absecon and often told stories of swimming in the "pits", camping out by the reservoir and playing ball with the boys in the neighborhood. Summers in his teens were spent working at his Dad's business on the Central Pier. He loved his Dad dearly and credited him for learning how to be a man. Stan graduated from Atlantic City High School. He loved Mustangs and owned the first one sold in New Jersey. He traveled to California several times and a special highlight was meeting and spending time with Carroll Shelby while completing his driving course. Stan found his calling when he joined the Atlantic City Fire Dept. He rose through the ranks and received a commendation while a Battalion Chief for leading the firefighting team that saved a 3 year old child. On a fire, his main concerns were the best strategy for putting out the fire and for the safety of his men. He retired after 25 years as a deputy chief. After retiring, Stan devoted himself to his passion for golf. He became certified by the USGTF as a golf teaching professional. he enjoyed mastering skills needed and the fellowship of other golfers, especially Don, Bill and Noel. Most people will remember his laugh and the hilarious stories he told. As you got to know him, you learned of his great intelligence and his amazing knowledge of history. If lucky, you might get a ride in his red Shelby Mustang. Stan celebrated his 75th birthday this past August and his 50th wedding anniversary this past September. Stan was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Woodrow Dorrington. Stan is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Stan, Jr. (Alyson); granddaughter, Madison; sister, Audrey Philip; nephew, Michael Philip; sister-in-law, Ellora (Don) Latham; niece, Malinda(Jeff) McGranahan; nephew, Don(Lynn) Latham; and goddaughter, Alicia Hahn and grandnieces and grandnephew. Services will be held at Adams Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield on Thursday, May 19th. A viewing will be from 10-11:00 am with services at 11:00. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery immediately following. Flowers are fine, but we prefer that you help someone, donate to your church, charity, or enjoy a good time with your family.
