Canandaigua: Stanley D. "Stan the Man" Barton, 91, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012, in The Gardens at M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua. He is survived by two sons Steve & Cliff Barton; two daughters Betty Poling and Sue Sampson; daughter-in-law Sherie Heins; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; niece Beverly Naylor, special friend Mary Hornbeak; and his loving church family at New Covenant. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn; his son, Stanley D. Barton Jr.; and his brother, Emory A. Walrod and two grandchildren. Born February 16, 1921 in Moravia, NY to Ethel M. (Rogers) & Delbert S. Barton, Stanley lived his early years in Moravia and returned there after serving in the South Pacific with the 118th Gen. Evac. Hospital during WWII. In 1967, he married Evelyn Marie Rickard Alford. He then raised his family in the Palmyra/Canandaigua area where he worked for the Ontario County Highway Department until his retirement after 21 years of service. Stanley, a charter member of the New Covenant Baptist Church, was also active in the Hopewell Grange, the National Campers & Hikers Association, the National VFW, and the Canandaigua PBA. He was an Honorary Member of the Ontario County Auxiliary Police, and in recent years was a good and faithful servant in his volunteer work for the Ontario County Meals on Wheels program. Mr. Barton was very musical and has composed and written lyrics for many songs through his years. He played guitar in the Lonesome Riders, a country & western band that was honored to play at the New York State fair in 1964. Friends may call Monday from 4-7 pm. at the Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11a.m. at New Covenant Baptist Church, 4317 County Rd. 46, Canandaigua, NY 14424. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. Memorial contributions may be made to New Covenant Baptist Church, 4317 County Rd. 46, Canandaigua, NY 14424. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com
