Former Sergeant First Class Cizewski was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the third child of the late Clemens and Katarzyna Cizewski, immigrants from Poland. His father bought a house in the Kensington section of Philadelphia during the Depression and Stanley's family lived there until the mid-1980s. In 1951 Stanley brought his bride and their new baby girl to the United States. Stanley Cizewski retired from the Army in 1964 and settled permanently in Havre De Grace, Maryland. He subsequently worked for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired and could devote full-time to his garden and its prolific harvests of tomatoes, corn and apples. He was also active in the Havre de Grace Chapter of the Disabled Veterans of America, serving as its commander for many years. In June 2010 he and his wife Millie moved to Atria Manresa Assisted Living in Annapolis, Maryland.
