Stanley E. Brown, 93 and Florence T. Brown, 94, died together September 12, 2023. They were childhood friends, high school sweethearts and married at age eighteen. On September 4, 2023, they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Their love spanned more than eight decades.
Stanley E. Brown was born December 28, 1929, in East Liverpool, Ohio. He was the son of the late Arthur and Mildred (Thomas) Brown.
Florence T. Gibas was born September 11, 1929 in Wellsville, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late John and Florence (Spencer) Gibas.
Stanley and Florence grew up during The Great Depression. They saw education as the key to a brighter future. Stanley was proud of his military service in the US Marine Corps in the early 1950s. After his service, he went to college on the GI bill and became an electrical engineer. As their family grew, Stanley and Florence were dedicated to their children's education. Stanley shared his love of reading with his children and made sure they all passed arithmetic. Florence was a room mother for all her children in elementary school.
In 1964, Stanley and Florence moved to Lansdale, where they raised their three children. Stanley loved a project and never missed a chance to help his children build something. He loved whipping out some graph paper, happy to put his engineering and drafting skills to use on his kids' projects. Florence made the house a home. She was a fantastic baker and on Friday the house smelled of freshly baked bread. They loved spending time with their children. Drive-in movies on a Saturday night in the station wagon with popcorn was a favorite. A hot summer day spent on Lake Nockamixon for a canoe race and a picnic with the kids was a regular event. They were always up for a vacation adventure with a cooler full of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and A-Treat soda. Both enjoyed slow evenings in front of the fireplace building puzzles and playing board games with the family. They proudly displayed a set of their children's college diplomas on their family room wall.
Stanley and Florence loved going to auctions, antique stores and flea markets. Florence collected silver. Candlesticks were a favorite. Stanley searched for pottery where his family had worked. They both turned over plates and saucers to see if they were made in their home town.
Stanley and Florence lived in a wonderful neighborhood. Their neighbors' friendship and loving support allowed them to live independently in their home for almost 60 years. Stanley remarked after every snowstorm that it never seemed to snow on his sidewalk and porch. His trashcans somehow made it to the curb and back before he could get outside. The family is deeply grateful for each and every one of these great friends.
Stanley and Florence were the loving parents of three children, Michael E. Brown (Chantal de Jonge Oudraat) of Washington DC, Robert A. Brown (Rita) of Hatfield Pennsylvania, and Patricia A. Tolton (Patrick) of Kennett Square Pennsylvania. They were grandparents to three grandchildren they cherished-Justin, Jarett and Owen. They had four great grandchildren. Blake, Beau, Wyatt and Logan brought smiles and joy to their hearts.
The funeral service for Stanley and Florence was held privately. They were buried side by side-just as they went through life-at St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont Pennsylvania.

When my Aunt was living both Stan and Florence were always eager to help my Aunt and cousin. They were a loving couple and the best neighbors any one could have.
