In 1967-1968 I was a Christian officer stationed aboard the USS Alstede AF48 in Norfolk, Virginia. The ship did not have a Chaplin. When I reported on board the Commanding Officer ask me to be the Protestant Lay Leader which I accepted. I began doing Bible study and here comes a fine looking, well mannered young man whose name is Stanley F. Hoffman. Stan was a committed Christian and participated in our bible study. While the ship was deployed overseas which was about four times at 2 months each, I would pray over the ship's public address system at 10:pm every night and ask God's Blessing on our men and safety for the ship. Now here comes Stanley and say hey Mr Elkins, you have to stay up every night until 10:00pm and I will alternate with you, which I accepted. Stan would say the most precious prayers and was highly respected by all of the 250 men on the ship. I was a Supply Officer and was responsible for various positions such as Disbursing and Food Service. Stan requested to work in my in the Supply Department and I gladly accepted him. Stan was invited to our home on several occasions and my wife and I met his mother who we invited into our home. Over the years Stan and I stayed in touch with each other. I am now 86 years old and I am looking forward to the time that I will go to Heaven and meet my dear brother. I miss you Stanley.
I would like to communicate with any of Stans family therefore I will leave my phone number with the funeral director.

I was in the Navy with Stanley 1967-1968 aboard the USS Alstede AF-48. I was his Division Officer. He was a very fine Christian Young Man. Today, 11/11/22 is Veterans Day I am thinking of Stan and His Family. I would love to talk to any member of his family and you are welcome to email me at: [email protected], give me your phone number and I will call you. I have very wonder memories of Stan that I would love to share with you. I had the privilege of meeting Stan's mother and invited her and Stan to our house. I was the Protestant Lay Leader on the ship and Stan joined in and helped me with Protestant Services on Sunday during times we were deployed. Stan's wife Crystal and all children and grand children are welcome to call me.
Hope to hear from you. BLESSINGS

Stan was my neighbor many many years ago in our neighborhood in Terre Haute, IN. I had not seen him in over 60 years but I have kept up on Stan´s journey through his lovely sister Stanita. There is Hope because of the Garden of Eden. There is Hope because of the Garden of Gethsemane. And there is Hope because the tomb is empty. Prayers of comfort for Stanita and all of Stan´s family.
