On March 14, 2025, the world became a little less funny and a whole lot less charismatic as Stanley Rosa Luyanda, known to friends as "Mudo," took his final bow. Born on December 20, 1965, in the vibrant city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Stanley had a knack for making the sun shine a little brighter. For 50 years, he was a pillar of positivity in Springfield, Massachusetts, where his contagious laughter and humble spirit could be heard echoing down every street.
Stanley was a man of simple pleasures. You'd often find him spinning a yarn that could have you in stitches one moment and on the edge of your seat the next. He was the living embodiment of Charlie Chaplin's words, "A day without laughter is a day wasted." He collected toy airplanes and trucks, but the real joy was in the sharing – whether showing off a new acquisition or simply asking someone how their day was, Stanley was all heart. He was never officially employed, but his full-time job was spreading love and cheer - and let's be honest, he was overqualified.
Despite being a man of few possessions, Stanley was rich where it mattered. He leaves behind a legacy of love, fondly remembered by his wife Jacqueline Luyanda, his son Stanley Luyanda Jr., his step-daughters Crystal Martinez and Michelle Valentin, his brother Angel Rivera, his father Luis Rivera, his step-grandson Jayden Anderson, and his numerous nieces and nephews. Stanley was predeceased by his mother, Yolanda Melendez, his sister, Nora Melendez, and his father, Danielo Luyanda.
Stanley's life will be celebrated with viewings at North End Chapel, 130 Carew Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, 01104, on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. His burial will take place on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 2:30pm, at Oak Grove Cemetery of Springfield Inc., 426 Bay Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, 01109.
In Stanley's memory, let's all take a leaf out of his book and make someone smile today. We encourage you to share your favorite 'Stanley story' and photos on his memorial page. As we remember this humble, loving, funny, and charismatic man, let's not forget his motto: "A day without laughter is a day wasted." So here's to you, Stanley! Thanks for the laughs!
