Stanley Nelson departed his earthly home in
Dimmitt, Texas on Sunday, November 23, 2025, for his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior. Stanley was 82 years old. Born in
Dimmitt, Texas on January 28, 1943, to H.C. Nelson and Gail (Ladd) Nelson, he touched the lives of many through his kindness, humor, hard work and unwavering spirit.
Stanley was known for his dedication to his family, profession, and community. After growing up in
Dimmitt, Texas and graduating from Dimmitt High School he attended and graduated from Texas Western College in 1965. He met his wife Connie Goodwin in high school, and they married in
Dimmitt, Texas in 1964. Early in his career, Stanley worked in insurance sales and managed a sale barn while living in New Mexico. In 1969, Stanley and Connie moved back to Dimmitt and began working for Roy and Jimmy Cluck with Cluck Feed Yard and to farm with his family. In 1988 he continued working in the feedyard business with Bruce Bridges until retirement. However, retirement was short lived for the hardest working man we've ever known, and he started working for Joe Johnson in Hereford up until his passing. Stanley lost his wife, Connie, after 31 loving years of marriage. Her memory remains a blessing to all who knew her. He was then fortunate to meet Cathy Martin and they were wed in Little Rock, Arkansas on May 20, 2000. They enjoyed 20 years together before her passing.
Stanley is survived by his children, Scott Nelson and wife Katy of Wichita, KS, Lisa Morgan and husband Bruce of Ft. Worth, TX, Laura Nelson of Arlington and Leslie Nelson also of Arlington, TX, stepchildren, Laura Laurent of Victoria, TX and Tommy Preston of White Deer, TX, brother, Norman Nelson and wife Sandra of
Dimmitt, TX. He was a very proud Grandad to his grandchildren, Jacob Nelson and wife Megan, Hanna Nelson, Sarah Nelson, Leah Nelson, Abi Nelson, Joshua Nelson, Lauren Morgan, Matthew Morgan, Lissandra Ramos, Paige (Brady) Pesek, Riggan Preston, Meggan Gonzales, Ashley Preston and Kade Preston, eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Stanley will be remembered fondly by a host of other relatives, friends, and colleagues.
Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, wife Connie in 1996, wife Cathy in 2022, brother, Joe Nelson, sister, Janice Shelton and grandson Kooper Preston.
The legacy of Stanley lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hart and served on the Dimmitt School Board from 1980 through 1989 where he served as President. Stanley was a beloved son and brother, a loving husband, exceptional father and had a special love for his grandchildren. He enjoyed time golfing, fishing and playing games with his many friends and family.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Hart, Texas with Dr. Matt Baird and Dr. Gene Meacham officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday evening from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
