Stanley Patton Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 9, 2026.
Stanley Edgar Patton, 91, of Winfield, KS, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026, with his daughters by his side.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, March 13, 2026, at Central Baptist Church in Winfield. Graveside services with military honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions for Stanley may be made to Central Baptist Church; donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.

Stanley was born on August 25, 1934, in Custer City, OK, to parents Arthur and Ruth Ann (Edgar) Patton. He graduated from Thomas High School in 1952 and attended many class reunions, including his 70th in 2022. He graduated in May 1956 from Oklahoma A&M College, which became Oklahoma State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Starting when he was 14 years old through 1956, he worked across the Midwest, custom cutting wheat every summer. While at OSU he joined ROTC and, after graduating, enlisted and served in the US Air Force for 4 years as a Navigator/Bombardier on B-47 aircraft. He flew many missions over Alaska during the Cold War. He then served as a reservist for 10 years before his Honorable Discharge, holding the rank of Captain. On July 6, 1957, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Arlene Artzberger. After his active Air Force duty, he worked for John Deere for 27 years. He worked as a Territory Manager in Wellington, KS, Hiawatha, KS and Chillicothe, MO before transferring to the Kansas City, MO Branch Office in the role of Complete Goods Manager. He retired from John Deere at 52 and remained a loyal supporter of all things green and yellow.

In his next chapter, he wore many hats. He bought and sold used cars, obtained his CDL, and delivered large utility vehicles to almost every state in the lower 48. Stanley and Arlene moved to Rogers, AR in 1996 where they lived for 20 years. To be closer to family, they moved to Winfield, KS and later to Cleveland, OK. After Arlene passed, Stanley moved back to Winfield, KS in 2023.

Stanley loved everything John Deere and OSU and was a very proud veteran. Wherever he lived, he was always a member of the First Baptist Church and Kiwanis. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering with cars, playing golf, bowling, reading his Reader's Digest, and listening to Paul Harvey for the rest of the story.

Stanley is survived by his daughters, Vicki Renshaw (Dr. Scott), of Winfield, Joyce Myers (Jason) of Eagan, MN, granddaughter Claire Myers, sister Joan Anderson of Tulsa, OK, nephews and nieces Lyndon Patton (Lisa), Gene Newton (Susan), Janna Hall, Gail Newton-Lyle (JD), Chris Anderson (Delores), Eric Anderson (Colleen), many great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Cameron Lee Patton, siblings Arlie Ruth Newton, Robert "Bob" Patton, Clifford Patton and Merry Alice Smith, niece Cheri Patton Newman, and nephew Gary Newton.

The family is eternally grateful for the wonderful care the staff at Winfield Senior Living provided Stanley since his move back to Winfield. They loved him like family, and it meant the world.
