Dr. Stanley Julian Strycker, 92, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, at Hubbard Hill.
He was born Aug. 30, 1931, in Goshen, Indiana, to Glenn and Ruth (Stump) Strycker.
On June 8, 1952, he married Patsy J. Soncarty in Goshen. She survives along with three children, Dr. S. Douglas (Helen Ann) Strycker, Milford, Connie (Robert) Springer, Metamora, Illinois and Dr. Stephen J. (Sharon) Strycker, Zionsville; a daughter-in-law, Andrea Strycker, Carol Stream, Illinois; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara (Ken) Yoder, Wheaton, Illinois; and sister-in-law, Barbara Strycker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dr. David B. Strycker; and a brother, Wallace Strycker.
Dr. Strycker graduated from Goshen High School in 1949 and from Goshen College in 1953 where he served as class president. In 1956 he earned his PhD from the University of Illinois in Organic Chemistry. He worked as Director of Pharmaceutical Research at Dow Chemical from 1956 to 1990. After retiring, Dr. Strycker volunteered as a Red Coat at Goshen Hospital from 1991 to 2020.
He was a member of Jefferson Community Church.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 3, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service at Jefferson Community Church, 58915 S.R. 15, Goshen. Pastor Ken Hunn will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Jefferson Community Church or Hubbard Hill Chapel.
