STAVROS MITSOPOULOS Obituary

STAVROS MITSOPOULOS, 86, of Killeen, Texas and formerly of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2022, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 9, 1936 in Florina, Greece, to Dimitri and Evdoxia Mitsopoulos. After serving in the Greek army, Stavros married Maria Kouressis, also of Florina, Greece, on April 20, 1961. In 1969 Stavros and Maria immigrated to the United States to make a better life for themselves and their young family and settled in Fort Wayne, Ind. Stavros' story is the story of the American Dream. He worked at Zollner Pistons until his retirement in 1998, while also working nights at The Rib Room. Maria worked for Pappas Furs and maintained the household. Together they built a beautiful home and life for themselves and their two daughters. Stavros was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards with his friends, and he loved to garden. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of Fort Wayne. He is survived by his daughters, Soula (Rick) Rifkin of Jupiter, Fla., and Dimitra (Scott) Fuller of Killeen, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Maria; his parents, Dimitri and Evdoxia; and his sister, Velma Guretis. Donations in his memory may be made to Baylor, Scott, and White Hospice, Temple, Texas, and the Alzheimer's Association. A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
