With family at her side, Stephanie Fehringer, 57, entered heaven on January 22, 2024, after losing her battle with cancer.

Steff was born in Duluth on June 23, 1966, to Mary (Vosika) and David Halstead.  She graduated from Duluth East High School in 1984, UMD in 1987 and Saint Scholastica in 1992.  She worked at UMD from 1988-2013 and the Sappi Paper Mill from 2012-2017.  While serving in the 148th Air National Guard from 1987-2011, Steff received many awards and rose to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.  Stephanie married Bruce Fehringer on October 24, 1992.

Stephanie loved hosting family and friends at their home as well as working in her flower gardens. She treasured her cats and corgis, and adored her sons whom she was very proud of.  Stephanie was a talented musician who played guitar and sang with the Singing Slovenes polka band for over 20 years and in her younger years, the Hearts Desire music group at St. Benedicts Catholic church.  She also was a Master Gardener and served as the president of this organization for St. Louis County and held leadership roles in the Smithville Garden Club.  Stephanie helped establish and mentored the Denfeld FIRST Robotics Team, created the non-profit Duluth Robotics, Inc., co-founded the Arrowhead Robotics Coalition, and for two years served as the co-chair for the FIRST Robotics Competition at the DECC in Duluth.

For many years Stephanie was the co-coordinator for the 3-mile water station at Grandma’s Marathon.  Steff was an active member at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church where for years she taught Sunday School and led the youth choir.  For her volunteer time at Stowe Elementary School, she was awarded the Honorary Stowe Staff Award in 2006. She was an active and energetic member in the community who used her gift of organization to make a difference in the lives of many and she was always willing to help anyone.  Steff will be deeply missed.

Stephanie is preceded in death by her parents, David and Mary; along with parents-in-law Gerald and Marion Fehringer.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce; sons, Sam and Ben; sister, Tracy (David) Rowe; brothers, Jeff (Carol) Halstead and Davey (Patricia) Halstead; siblings-in-law, Barbara (Jon) Letsinger, Deanna (Todd) Albro, Burt (Delinda) Fehringer, Bill (Nancy) Fehringer, Kathy (Rick) Webster, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will occur at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church (610 99th Ave. W., Duluth, MN 55808) on Friday, February 2nd at 10am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with luncheon to follow at church.  Memorial donations can be sent to Duluth Robotics Inc., PO Box 7367, Duluth, MN, 55807.
