Stephanie Halfhill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Young Funeral Home - Louisa on Apr. 6, 2026.
Stephanie Denise Wellman Halfhill, 53, of Blaine, KY went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Stephanie was born June 24, 1972, in Louisa, KY to John Wellman and Stella (Roberston) Wellman.

Stephanie was of Baptist faith, most recently attending Louisa First Baptist Church. Stephanie loved her family fiercely and would light up when sharing stories about her children and grandchildren. She and Joe opened their home to many through the years and anyone sharing their home was considered family.

Stephanie had a servant's heart. She touched many lives through teaching, fostering and mentoring. After completing college at Eastern Kentucky University with degrees in Special Education/Hearing Impaired and English in 1995, she taught in many schools throughout KY. She retired from Lawrence County Schools in 2021. She continued giving of her talents by taking a position as Deaf Education Consultant in Patiala, India at the Patiala School for the Deaf to help improve education for the hearing impaired there. Stephanie was an avid reader, and when she noticed that the students there did not have access to books, she was instrumental in founding a library at the school. She was passionate about teaching and had a love and bond with her students both here and abroad. She built many relationships with her students, their families and colleagues throughout her career leaving a legacy to be remembered.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Joseph Atwood Halfhill, Jr. She is survived by her parents John and Stella Wellman; sibling Kenneth Brian Wellman (Katrina); children Joseph Atwood Halfhill III, Kennedy Wiley-Halfhill, Emma Sue Halfhill and bonus children Dylan Curtis Sizemore and Kolten Dean; grandchildren Mason Alexander Inman and Malakai Ireland Halfhill; sisters in law Marcella Halfhill, Zella (Chuck) Stambaugh and Gail (David) Webster and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Memorial services are being planned and will be announced at a later date. Young Funeral Home is being entrusted with the care of Mrs. Halfhill and her family.
