Stephanie Lynn McCurdy

Stephanie Lynn McCurdy, 53, of Rexburg, Idaho, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026, in her home surrounded by those she loved.

Steph was born September 5th, 1972 in Logan Utah to Sharlene McCraken Smith and Jack Clayton. She was raised in a loving home by Sharlene and Ronnie Smith, who played a central role in her upbringing and who she loved dearly. As a little girl, one of Steph’s favorite ways to pass the time was pretending to run her own store. She loved setting it up and carefully organizing everything so she could play the role of the clerk serving all of her customers.That early love for organizing stayed with her and became a skill she used throughout the rest of her life.

She grew up and graduated from Hagerman High School in 1990 and went to Ricks College where she got an Associates Degree in Office Education. After graduating, she moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where she later met the love of her life, Scott McCurdy, in the summer of 1993. A few months later they were married for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. Steph always hoped for a large family, and during their marriage they were blessed with five children, each of whom she loved deeply.

In early 1997, at the age of 24, Steph was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. With remarkable courage and determination, she faced the disease head-on, enduring chemotherapy, radiation, multiple surgeries, and every treatment available to her. After five years of fighting, she entered into remission.

Although she continued to experience lasting effects from those treatments, Steph chose to live her life focused on loving and serving those around her.

In 2018, the cancer returned. Steph underwent a massive 18-hour surgery, followed by weeks in the hospital and six months of recovery at home and life long changes. The procedure helped ease some of her symptoms for a time, but the cancer continued to spread. Even so, Steph never stopped fighting. She pursued every treatment available and faced each challenge with unwavering courage.

Her strength, resilience, and perseverance were truly inspiring to all who knew her.

Steph loved serving those around her and spent her life making sure everyone felt cared for. She found great joy in supporting her family and rarely missed a moment of their lives. Whether it was a dance performance, football game, swim meet, track meet, or any other activity her children were involved in, Steph could always be found in the crowd cheering them on.

She loved spending time outdoors—working in the yard, gardening, soaking up the sunshine, and camping at Alturas Lake with her family. Steph was also known in her family for her love of board and card games, and it was never a surprise when she came away the winner. Being an aunt brought her great happiness, and she could often be found enthusiastically supporting her nieces and nephews in their own activities.

Steph was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. She continued to give of herself and serve others, even during times of illness. One of the greatest joys of her life was the temple. She cherished every opportunity to serve and was especially grateful to be called as a temple worker in the Rexburg, Idaho, Temple, where she served during the final years of her life. Even after medical treatments, she would leave the hospital to serve in the temple because she knew that was exactly where she wanted to be.

Another great joy in Steph’s life was her grandchildren. She treasured being a grandmother and loved spoiling her three grandbabies.

Stephanie influenced and touched the hearts of everyone she met, and losing her leaves a big hole in the lives of those who knew her. At this time, we are so grateful for the knowledge we have that we will be with her again. We will miss her terribly, but we know she is free of the pain she suffered most of her life. She is up in heaven doing amazing things and preparing for us to join her again, which brings peace to our lives. We would like to encourage you to continue her legacy by finding ways to serve and bring joy to others like Steph did for everyone around her.

She is survived by her husband Scott McCurdy; her daughter, Ashtyn (Zach) Ashworth, her sons, Parker McCurdy, Conner McCurdy, Bridger McCurdy, and Hunter McCurdy; and her 3 grandchildren. She is also survived by her parents, Ronnie and Sharlene Smith; her siblings Carissa Smith, Emily (Spencer) Webb, Troy (Kallee) Smith, Corrine (Ron) Saunders, Quinn, (Miranda) Smith, Shelli (Destry) Simpson, Julie (Bryce) Earl, Jordon (Laramie) Smith, and Becca (Tanner) Holmes; and many other family members who loved her deeply.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 13th, at 10:00 am at the Center Stake Building in Rexburg, Idaho (590 Summerwood Drive). A viewing will be held the night before from 5:30-7:00 pm at Flamm Funeral Home and prior to the service from 9:00-9:45 am.
