Stephany Thorsness

1948 - 2021

Stephany Thorsness, 73, Tappen, North Dakota, passed away, following a six and a half year courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at her home with her husband of 52 years and sister-in-law, Ronda Thorsness, by her side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 22, 2021, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Tappen with Rev. Peter Sharpe officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, May 21, 2021, from 6-7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM also, at the church. Per her wish's cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be in the ND Veterans Cemetery, Monday, May 24, 2021 at Noon.
Stephany was born February 25, 1948, at Bismarck, ND, to Ben and Anna (Balabon) Kinev. She was raised and educated in Tappen, graduated from Tappen High School in 1966. Following high school, she attended Wahpeton School of Science and earned a degree in Business. She married Roger Thorsness on January 3, 1969. She worked for the Tappen School as Business Manager for 32 years and worked for Bowerman Insurance, selling insurance as a Licensed Insurance Agent.
She enjoyed gardening, pysanky, ceramics, and sketching. She especially enjoyed attending her grandsons sporting events. She was a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Altar Society and Auxiliary Post 212. She taught CCD, Sunday school and vacation bible school. She had a deep appreciation for "good wine".
She is survived by her husband; two children, Spencer (Della) Thorsness, Nancy (Josh) Fuchs, all of Bismarck; two grandsons, Patrick Freeman, West Fargo, ND, and Tanner Thorsness, Grand Forks, ND; sister, Paulette (Ron) Voegele, two brothers, Larry (Kim) Kinev, and Randy (Karen) Kinev; six brothers and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
Stephany was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Sidney (Rose) Thorsness, and brother-in-law, Berdean "Turtle" Thorsness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidder County Angels or Red River Valley Hospice. The family would like to express a special thank you for the care and compassion that was shown to the entire family from the staff of the Red River Valley Hospice and North Dakota Respite Care, that came to the house.
