Stephen Andersen Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 2, 2026.
Steve Kent Andersen passed away on the morning of January 27th after a short battle with cancer, just four days shy of his 70th birthday. He was an Arizona native, born at Good Samaritan Hospital on January 31st, 1956. He was proud of the fact that his children were also born at Good Samaritan.

He held multiple jobs in his life. The greatest was his role as Mr. Mom, staying home with his children. I had my doubts when he called me 45 minutes after my first shift and asked me where the diapers were. He got better as time went on.

His last two jobs were his favorite. He was a patient transporter at Boswell Hospital and Phoenix Children's Hospital. He retired from Phoenix Children's Hospital in 2018.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Florette Andersen. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary, and three children: Brandon (Amy) Andersen of San Diego, CA, grandchildren Evan and Eli; Brett Andersen of Glendale; and Brittany (Lenny) Santa Cruz of Chesapeake, VA, grandchildren Alice and Leo.

He enjoyed camping and fishing in the White Mountains.

His favorite place was Greer. At his request, his ashes will be spread there. He loved dogs and hoped to meet all his past dogs at the Rainbow Bridge. He leaves behind Max, who stayed beside him to the very end.

Donations in his name may be made to the Humane Society of AZ.
