Stephen Babbitt Jr.

More than a few of my fondest memories of my years in Minneapolis involve Steve and his various personas. Ernie, or Comrade Babovitch, or Steverino or just plain 'ol Steve, it didn't matter, it was always fun! He was an integral part of Southwest's Class of '60, and he will be greatly missed. I doubt you'll accept a harp to play but will insist on a flat-back Dobro!

Not everyone can truly understand how it feels to loose a brother. Just know that he is beginning a new life of peace and serenity. Anything you need Jack, just ask.

Never a bad or sad word from Steve...He was truly a generous, compassionate person who took great joy from life. I'll always remember fondly the many nights he played washboard with me at the 400 bar..such enthusiasm!

I was privileged to play with Steve in the Three Day Weekend band. His big heart and sense of fun infused his music and he inspired everyone.

Seth and Tristan,
I was so sorry to hear about your dad. Minneapolis has definitely lost a great part of the music scene and also a great man. You are both in my thoughts and prayers. If there is anything at all I can do please don't hesitate to call. I love you and miss you both.

I first met Steve at a gig back in '77 or so. He was playing with Lazy Bill and I was with Mojo Buford. He was always kind, funny and upbeat. He was a really great guy. He will be missed

Steve always made me feel welcome. I didn't know him as well as I would've liked, but am thankful for the times that we talked blues and music. Steve was truly a blues treasure. He will be missed.

I got to know Steve and hung out at a few Jonny Lang shows. Also caught a couple of Steve's shows at the Terminal. My thoughts are with Jack and family. Steve will be missed!

Always a kind word to say about everyone and their gig, Steve will be greatly missed. With his encyclopedic knowledge of obscure blues, Him and the Big Guy can now school all the new recruits.

I never met Steve but would see him at shows all around town. Had the chance to play with him once at the Famous Dave's Blues Jam and he seemed like a great guy! Sad loss for the Twin Cities Blues scene!

I will remember Steve as a good dance buddy. We had some fun nights dancing to the Cranstons at Whiskey Junction and at the Sunday Night Jam at Inn Kahoots. Sadly, the last time I saw Steve was at Chuck's funeral a year ago. My sympathy to his brother Jack, his best friend Gary, and son Tristan.
