Stephen Edward Berry, 63, of Central Valley, NY, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, with his wife of 31 years by his side.
Born July 1, 1962 in Middletown, NY, Stephen was the son of the late Edward (Ted) and Mary Lee Berry. He was a beloved father, husband and friend, who touched the lives of many with his kind spirit, carefree attitude and athletic expertise.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Jennifer Berry; his five children, Alexa, Gillian, Jack, Corey and Daniel Berry; his brother, Ronald (Georgie) Berry of Redding, CT; his sister-in-law, Julie (Darren) Schwartz of Central Valley, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ted and Mary Lee Berry and his sister, Gayle Lerch.
Steve carried with him a deep pride in his hometown and the experiences that shaped him. Attending Goshen Central Schools, he excelled in multiple sports, including football, basketball and baseball. He played quarterback, point guard and centerfield, being contacted by the New York Yankees for the MLB draft during his senior year. He went on to play college baseball at New England College, earning All-American honors. After earning his bachelor's degree, Steve later competed in fast-pitch softball in the Middletown League and made numerous appearances at World Championships in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Also, an avid golfer, he remained a lifelong sports enthusiast.
In 1985, Steve began his professional career by joining Wallace and Berry Insurance in Goshen and Monroe, NY, where he worked side by side with his father for 35 years.
Steve married his wife Jennifer in 1994 and together they raised their 5 children. Above all else, nothing brought him more pride and joy than his children. Being hands on, as Steve always was, he continued his love of sports while proudly cheering on his children at gymnastics meets, dance recitals, ballet competitions and football and basketball games. His children were his proudest accomplishment and the heart of everything he did.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Stephen's life on Sunday, January 18, with visitation from 11 to 1 and a service following at Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY 10924.
