Stephen Joseph Burns Jr., 74, of Philadelphia PA, passed away on July 6, 2025 at his residence in Essington, PA.
Stephen was born in Pleasantville, NJ to Stephen Burns and Catherine Schmidilen, on November 8, 1950. He attended high school at John Bartram and left to get his GED and join the Army, where he served in Vietman. After the war, Stephen attended trade school and became a commercial HVAC mechanic. Stephen worked for the City of Philadelphia and for the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. He had his own business for many years and retired from Boeing. Stephen was a Vietnam veteran and supporting the veterans was important to him. He loved to fish. He spent most of his time fishing in the Delaware River and the Jersey shore.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alice Burns; his children: daughter, Alice (Vince) Marvel, sons, Stephen (Tiffany)Burns, Michael (Lindsey) Burns. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Ava Marvel, Scarlett Marvel, Kai Burns, Kash Burns, Raider Burns and Gunner Burns. He is survived by his brothers, William Miller, Mark Burns and his sister Stephanie Jones. Stephen was preceded in death by his older sister, Cassandra Mason, father, Stephen Burns, and mother, Catherine Schmidilen.
Visitaton will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 10 -11am at Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA 19074. Funeral service will follow at 11am. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made to Pets for Vets and the Vietnam Veterans of America in Stephen's memory.
