"Good teacher, engaged kayaker, nice
guy" is an accurate but massive understatement. I am, in so many ways, a better person and a better citizen because of Dr. Steve Daniel and the people who he personally recruited to the Texas A&M Philosophy department. He wasn´t just the model philosophy teacher. He fostered a culture of exceptional pedagogy, and he did it through hard work (work I´m sure he enjoyed - but work nonetheless) and force of personality. And somehow, while he was doing that, he literally wrote the book on kayaking in Texas! He made countless lives richer. To know him and learn from him was an incredible privilege.
