Beloved husband of Arlene Darby. Devoted father of Jennifer Dennis and her husband Kevin, Megan Sansone and her husband David, and Bridget Darby & her fiancé Neil Ryan. Loving grandfather of Owen and Grant Dennis and Thomas and Hailey Sansone. Loyal son to Nicholas and Joan Darby. Dear brother of Karen Mottola (Domenic), Paul Darby, John Darby (Barbara), and Diane Tarsnane (Peter). He is also survived by an enormous extended family of in-laws, dozens of nieces and nephews, uncles, many cousins, and lots of friends that he considered family.
Born in Brooklyn, NY he lived in Pearl River, NY for 29 years. Stephen served proudly as a New York City Police Officer (1984-2004), majority of the time was with the Central Park Precinct. He was one of the many heroic first responders on 9/11. After he retired, he continued to protect others as a security officer. For the last few years he served at Horace Mann School in the Bronx, NY which he fondly would refer to as his "Horace Mann Family". He was a parishioner of The Church of Presentation in Upper Saddle River, NJ.
The family will receive their relatives and friends on Monday, December 19th between 3pm and 8pm at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home in West Nyack, NY. A Mass Honoring Stephen's life and faith will be held on Tuesday, December 20th at 10am at St. Aedan's Church in Pearl River, NY. The interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, NY.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Stephen's name to support Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's efforts to cure Glioblastoma Multiforme (GMB).

Officer Darby,
On today, the 2nd anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of New York City and our Country as well. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
