Steve O'Brien
April 7, 2025
He introduced himself to me as DeWitt, and that's what I called him. But I referred to him as a dear friend, more so, family. In 1989, when I moved to southern California, DeWitt and Carmen, along with Carla and Stevie, adopted me. To this day I don't know why I was so lucky, but I'm forever thankful. He made me laugh. He made everyone laugh. One of his gifts was humor and he shared it unconditionally. His pride in his family was undeniable, and he was happiest when surrounded, in chaos, by everyone named DeWitt. Another gift was his generosity. When he opened his home and his family to me, I never left, and always had a place to visit, his warm and loving home. The world was a better place with Steve DeWitt in it. I take deep solace in having been part of his life, as I am better for all of our experiences. And though I miss him every day, my heart will be forever full with memories that will endure. Love you my friend.
