Stephen Ellenberger Obituary

Stephen Roy Ellenberger

March 23, 1957 - April 24, 2025

Rebersburg, Pennsylvania - Stephen Roy Ellenberger, known affectionately as Steve by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, at his home in Rebersburg, Pennsylvania. Born on March 23, 1957, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, Steve was a beloved son, brother, husband, and father.

Steve grew up in a close-knit family, the oldest of four siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Donna Ellenberger. His memories will be cherished and kept alive by his brothers, James and David; his sister, Karen; and his devoted wife, Karen Rider. Steve's legacy continues through his children, Andy and Timothy; he was predeceased by his sons, Brian and Scott.

Steve was a proud graduate of State College High School. His strong work ethic was evident early in his career as he established himself as a skilled paint and wallcovering contractor, a trade he excelled in from 1978 to 2004. In 2004, Steve embarked on a new venture by purchasing Porter's Paint, where he became well-respected in the community for his expertise and dedication to customer service.

A man of many interests, Steve's passion for fishing was unparalleled. He treasured the annual trips to Canada with his friends, where they shared laughs, stories, and the thrill of the catch. These moments brought Steve great joy and provided a respite from his busy work life.

Steve's presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. He set an example of resilience, integrity, and the importance of family and friendship that will endure for generations to come.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Visitation will be Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 1:00-3:00 pm at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, with a memorial service following at 3:00 pm.

As the sun sets on a life well-lived, we take comfort in knowing that Steve's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

I did not know Steve nor did he know me when I first walked into his store. I was in the middle of a big renovation and was desperate as the materials I was using did not work. I was amazed and grateful as he took time to explain and recommend alternatives. Solved my problem immediately. Over the years the Steve and Karen business experience
grew into a warm relationship. He did more than run a business. He was a caring individual who led a life well lived.
