It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Stephen Robert "Bob" Fatora of Scottsdale, AZ, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the age of 80. Beloved husband to his wife, Donna L. Fatora (nee Falk), and proud father to his son, Steven J. Fatora. Bob had a brilliant mind for scientific research, and he was a loving husband to his wife, Donna, the best friend of son, Steven, and caring father-in-law to Nadine. He had a deep and committed love of family, country, and God.
Bob was born in Latrobe, PA, on September 24, 1944, to the late Stephen R. Fatora and Doris J. Fatora (nee Marts). He grew up in Derry, PA, and graduated from St. Vincent College and earned his Ph.D. in Human Genetics from the University of Pittsburgh. He held director and executive positions at DuPont, Milkhaus Labs, and completed his career as President & CEO of KeyBay Pharma.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Donna, in 1969. Although they spent many great years together working and traveling, he truly looked forward to simply holding hands every night with Donna with their miniature dachshund Nikki against their side.
Bob and his son were best friends. He was the type of father who was always there; one who his son could call on his best and worst days always knowing how much he loved him. Bob loved traveling the world with his son, with his favorite memories being dogsledding sections of the Iditarod Trail and touring the Great Pyramids. He would say his favorite earned title was not "Doctor," it was "Dad." He loved being called Dad.
Bob was the best father-in-law that a woman could ask for in life. He was kind, patient, and always available. Nadine remembers how he would reach out to talk about their favorite TV shows and current events and always made her feel part of the family from the day they met.
He had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, which translated to his love of the many wonderful family pets through the years. His hobbies included native American history and visiting petroglyph sites, landscaping as he earned an Arizona Master Gardener Certification, and being an avid football fan of his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a patriot and a great conservative. May God rest his soul.
Bob is succeeded by his wife, Donna, of Scottsdale, AZ, and son, Steven, of Northville, MI. He is also survived by his two sisters, Barbara E. Carney and Carol Ann Fatora.
A private family service was held at Messinger Pinnacle Peak in Scottsdale, AZ.
