Stephen Michael Hess

Steve Hess died at home on February 11, 2026 with his wife, Annette (A) and daughter, Becca at his side. He had chosen to join Hospice due to Peripheral Artery Disease and Kidney Failure.

Steve was the eldest son of Alice and Milton Hess, brother to Richard Hess and Deborah Hess Schramek. He grew up in Flushing, New York, attending Francis Lewis High School and Hunter College.

Steve was a lifelong teacher, starting his career in the Bronx. He moved to San Francisco in l972 and joined Rivendell School where he met his future wife, and many of the students and their parents who became lifelong friends. He later became a locksmith, running his company All City Locksmith.

Steve was always active, playing softball on many teams including the Intergalactic Marauders, Orioles and Vegetables. He loved golf and once hit a hole in one. Scuba was a favorite pastime, he enjoyed numerous trips to Cozumel. Steve and A spent most of their vacations traveling the world to explore underwater sites.

Steve was pre-deceased by his parents, and sadly leaves A, daughter Rebecca Amirault and Justin Amirault, his loving son-in-law. Vivian Amirault and Colette Amirault, his beloved granddaughters were the apples of his eye. Maya Britt Berkeley, his Goddaughter taught him many of his grandfather skills. His cat Ariel is not the same without him.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
