Stephen James Hughey, Sr., 59, of Chesnee, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Steve was born February 26, 1966, in Spartanburg, a son of Alice Green Martin of Chesnee and the late James Willard Hughey.

Steve was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army. He attended Spartanburg Technical College and was a former employee of the Spartanburg Water System. He later worked with R.R. Donnelley and AFL Telecommunications.

Steve enjoyed working on cars, rescuing dogs and riding his motorcycles.

Surviving is his wife, Monica Murphy; his mother, Alice Green Martin (Ronnie) of Chesnee; his son, Stephen James Hughey, Jr. (Brittany) of Rutherfordton, NC; his step-children, Vanessa Lunn (Cameron) and Justin Murphy of Inman; his brother, Terry Hughey (Jessica) of Chesnee; his grandchildren, Camden James Hughey and Carter Lee Hughey; his step-grandchildren, Carson Blake Lunn and Skylar Zelda Lunn; his niece and nephew, Taylor Williams and Kobe Shaw; and his beloved dogs, Dolly and Rosie.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, PO Box 2624, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
