Stephen Rae Johnson

Stephen R. Johnson, 67, of St Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025 at his home. He was born September 4, 1958 in St. Joseph, son of Catherine and Roy Johnson. Stephen attended Lafayette High School. On June 6, 1986, he married Julie Bumphrey. Steve spent several years working construction. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, cooking, listening to music, and watching western movies. He also enjoyed classic cars and going to car shows. Steve was also a John Wayne and Elvis Presley fan. Steve was also a member of Life Church. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Elijah Johnson, siblings, Connie Brushwood, Roy "Buster" Johnson, Jr., Norman "Woody" Johnson, Karen Joann Johnson, Virna "Kathy" Libby, and Eddie Johnson, and father-in-law, Kenneth Bumphrey. Survivors include: wife, Julia Johnson of the home, children, Drew (Diane) Johnson of Princeton, MO, Brittany (Gary) Ellis of Mound City, MO, and Ian Johnson of St. Joseph, siblings, Judy Hardin of St. Joseph, Vickie Heavilin of Savannah, MO, Terry (Diane) Johnson of St. Joseph, and Timothy Johnson of St. Joseph, mother-in-law, Marsha Bumphrey, of St. Joseph, sister-in-law, Jennifer Bumphrey, of St. Joseph and brother-in-law, Kenneth Bumphrey Jr., of St. Joseph, 9 grandchildren, Alex, Na'Zyla, Leon, Davina, Breanna, Rylee, Brendon, Dallas, and Marissa, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Rupp Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Orrick officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery with a Celebration of Life following at Life Church. Memorials are requested to the American Kidney Foundation.
