It was an honor knowing Steve growing up in Freeport. What a nice guy and good friend! I know hes missed very much by all that knew him.

10 degrees outside in the middle of winter, Steve walks across the parking lot to make the bank deposit in his shorts! I will miss this. A good man, a good life. My thoughts and prayer to all of you.

Steve was a great classmate. His mother was a great lady. Steve and I attended Boy's State at the Springfield, IL State Fairgrounds in July of 1973. He was voted the Best Model Citizen of the entire convention. A truly outstanding man.

Barb ~ Shocked and very saddened to say the least. I have always said the best job I ever had was being part of the first GH crew, helping the both of you to open your store, and eventually helping Steve with the baking, which was both an honor and a privilege. And, who knew years later my son would find his way to that bread table! I will miss Steve's beautiful smile, laughter, kind heart but his spirit will always be felt when I walk into GH, and listen to my Hotbake cd. Our heartfelt condolences to you, Katie, Andy and Matt.

Barb- I'm so sorry to hear about Steve's passing! It's been many years since I was able to spend time with him, but he was a great man. We spent a lot of time together in high school. He was the kindest, warmest and funniest friend a guy could ask for. I know you must miss him terribly. My thoughts and prayers are for you and your family.

I used to see Steve on a regular basis during the week. What a wonderful man and I always enjoyed talking to him. My heart goes out to you all during this time. He will be truly missed and all were blessed who knew him. My heart is heavy for you all...

Although I only met Steve once - 10 years ago this month at ISU freshman orientation, I remember what a kind and gentle man he was. It was an exciting time for our Katies and he was "all in" getting his youngest ready to leave the nest. I'm so sorry I can't be with you on Saturday in person, but you will be in my heart.
