On December 2, 2023 Steve passed away in
Galloway, NJ. He was 74 years old. Steve is survived by his mother Antonette Layton of Northfield and preceded in death by his father, Howard Layton. He is also survived by his daughters, Tracey Fox (Len) of Egg Harbor Township and Jennifer Lawler (Royce) of
Hillsboro, Oregon. His grandkids Nathan and Maya Lawler and Shane Fox.
Steve was born on February 23, 1949 in Somers Point. He graduated from Mainland Regional High School in 1967. Steve was drafted into the Army in 1969 and served his country until 1971.
Steve's love of fishing always led him to Dog Beach, his favorite fishing spot where you could find him any day of the week hanging with his fishing buddies. Steve's passion for cars started at a young age racing at Atco Speedway where some came to know him as "Fast Steve". His passion continued in his later years as seen by his vast collection of vintage Hot Wheels cars including multiple '57 Chevys.
Steve was well liked by many. Known for his friendly personality and his easy going approach to life. The devotion he showed to his mom was observed frequently. His genuine charm will be missed.
