Stephen H. Lewis, 78, passed away peacefully at home on December 7, 2025. He was born on December 29, 1946, in
Effingham, IL to Neda Belle Draper and Ralph Lewis both who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Wayne Cowger, wives, Janice Carrera and Lavenna Carpenter, stepson Devon Head, adored grandmother Ethel, treasured aunts and uncles, many, many dear friends and the canine love of his life, Louie Lewis. His welcome home reception will be large, loud and joyous!
Steve spent his childhood in his hometown of
Greenup, IL. Throughout his life he shared many fun and loving memories of his idyllic childhood days with his family in the Village of Greenup, some of his favorites were stories of learning to swim and fish in the Embarras River with his Uncle Fred and his Aunt Marcella's special treats from the Candy Kitchen.
His high school years were spent in
Terre Haute, IN where he was a champion tennis player on the Honey Creek High varsity tennis team and a budding ladies' man. After high school he went to New York City to study cosmetology and later worked as a stylist and salon and beauty school owner in Terre Haute. He was also an award-winning platform artist. He also ventured into the restaurant business in Terre Haute as the owner of Pasquale's Pizza and Dog & Suds restaurants. He served as an officer in the Army National Guard during the 1960's.
Later Steve moved to Indianapolis and began working in employment and eventually owned employment agencies specializing in the placement of insurance and medical professionals. He is remembered with deep affection by those he trained and mentored who went on to have very successful careers in the employment industry.
Steve was a gracious host, an exceptional dancer, an accomplished golfer, a winning poker player and an all-around charming & witty fellow. He loved cooking, country music, hummingbirds, The Waltons, cold beer, football, and spending time with friends and family. He truly was a friend a friend would love to have. He was a kind and compassionate man who was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his partner in life, Teri Evans; his son, Tony Lewis; his stepsons, Alan Head and John Head; several grandchildren and sister, Debra Bouck of Terre Haue, IN. In accordance with his wishes there will be a private casting ceremony on the Embarras River.
