Stephen Margiotta Obituary

Forever faithful to his priorities of family, hard work, generosity Stephen Vincent Margiotta passed away at his home with his family on December 26, 2021 (St. Stephen's Day). He was 93 years old. Steve was a longtime resident of Scotch Plains having moved from Bayonne in 1969. Born and raised in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, New York, he attended New Utrecht High School. At that time there was only one real sport, the national pastime - baseball. Scouting was different then and part of the baseball scouting process was open tryouts every year for all comers. Steve was one of 4 or 5 players out of more than 600 candidates that made the cut and was drafted by the baseball New York Giants. He was in Spring Training in Sanford Florida when he received the call that his Dad was sick and after his train arrived home, found out his dad had passed away. So, at the age of 18, he put his dream of playing professional baseball to rest and he took over his father's offset printing business and became the head of the household taking care of and supporting his Mother and two younger brothers. He took the printing business further than anyone could have imagined - from printing locally for the clients at the Fulton Fish Market to being the primary source printer or contributing printer for many large companies including Cunard Line, Arby's, the New York Mets, Chanel, American Express, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Concord Watch, Prudential Bache Securities and, with his two brothers Sam and Vincent, Barnes and Noble. After a long career his retirement was the start of his second career - Atlantic City. For 35 years Steve was a familiar and welcomed face at Bally's, the Taj Mahal and Bogota Casinos, where there was always an open spot for him at his favorite craps table amongst many friends and family. Steve met his beloved wife Delia in the early 1950's while each was out independently with friends in Greenwich Village, New York. After a long courtship, they married in January 1958 and were married for nearly 64 years at the time of his passing. Together they had five children. Steve is predeceased by his son Stephen Mark, his mother Catherine, his father Michael, his brother Sam and Sam's wife Vicki, his brother Vincent, his sister-in-law Lorraine Wheeler, his brother-in-law Bruce Wheeler, and his brother-in-law Vincent Ramkawsky. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Delia, his daughter Linda K. Lettera and his son-in-law Frank Lettera, his son Michael and Michael's wife Denise, his son Mark, his son Stephen, his grandson Christopher Lettera, his granddaughters Marlowe Margiotta and Lennon Margiotta, his sister-in-law Rosebud Margiotta, his sister-in-law Mary Ann Ramkawsky, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and second cousins. Forever faithful to his priorities of Family, hard work, generosity and being kind, Steve lived a full and wonderful life. Friends and family will gather between 4 & 8 pm Monday January 3rd at the funeral home. A funeral ceremony to will be held in the spring on a date and time to be determined.
