Stephen McCully

Stephen McCully, a 33 year Grays Harbor resident died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 while fishing in the Humptulips River. He was 64. Steve was born February 15, 1948 in Elma to Phillip Lee and Emogene (Bartlett) McCully Sr. Steve grew up in McCleary and is a graduate of Elma High School's class of 1967. After high school and brief service with the United Stated Marine Corps, he went to work for Sears where he worked as a service manager and instructor from 1967 until 1991. While at Sears, he worked in Aberdeen, Walla Walla, Missoula, MT and Glendale, CA. He later worked for Heilig-Meyers in Hesperia, CA for 4 years and then at Puckett's Flooring in Tempe, AZ. Steve also had a part time residence in Sun City, AZ. Steve married Nancy Jenkins on October 13, 1967 in Raymond, WA. He later married Carmencita Habos in California. Steve was a board member of the McCleary United Methodist Church, the Elma Eagles and numerous amateur radio clubs; life-time member of the American Radio Relay League, Past President of the Grays Harbor Amateur Radio Club, Vice President of the West Valley Amateur Radio Club, Member of the Western Washington DX Club and a member of the Central Arizona DX Association. His call signs were W7TZ and WA7HSD. Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed clam digging, cooking, smoking fish, canning, making sausage and sauerkraut, scuba diving and travelling. Steve's selfless devotion to his father, whom he cared for in his final years, will always be seen as a reflection of his love and character by the family. He will be dearly missed! Steve is survived by his daughter, Sheila Ann (Bruce) Dirksen, Azusa, CA, grandchildren; Lorelai and Kellen Dirksen, brother, Phillip "Mac" McCully, McCleary, sister, Sharla (Tony) Mauhar, Tumwater, sister, Laurie McCully, Vista, CA and sister, Shelley (Tom) Little, Shelton and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of Steve's life will begin at 1PM Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the McCleary United Methodist Church.
