Stephen K. McNutt passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends on August 31, 2025, after a courageous six-year battle with ALS.
Steve was born in Harlingen, Texas on August 21, 1959. He grew up traveling the world as a "military brat" before settling permanently back in the Valley in 1974 upon his dad's Air Force retirement. He graduated from San Benito High School and attended Texas A & I University. After college and various jobs using his mechanical inclination, Steve found his calling as an electrician in Harlingen for almost 40 years.
Steve was fiercely loyal to his family and a lifelong friend to countless people from all walks of life. He was an avid outdoorsman. If it involved a trigger, draw string, or fishing line, Steve was good at it. He used his talents, both mechanical and outdoor, to help anyone in need of his abilities to come up with solutions to problems most couldn't solve. It tore him up to lose the physical ability to help. He overcame this in his latter years by verbalizing solutions and getting enjoyment out of watching friends and family struggle with what he used to do so easily.
Finally, Steve was fearless. He would have charged hell with a bucket of water, but fortunately he doesn't have to. We are comforted knowing he is in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Steve is survived by his best friend, selfless caretaker, and wife, Lisa, their son, Richard (Danielle), and his cherished grandchildren, Dakota Rae, and Nolan Maddux. He is also survived by his parents, William and Mellie, brothers, Bill Jr. (Joni), Jeff, and Casey (Monica).
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, September 12, at 5 pm at Rangerville Baptist Church, 32004, Rangerville Rd, San Benito, TX 78586.
We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to "ALS Ride for LIfe" at https://alsrideforlife.org/support-us/make-a-donation/ or use the QR code below:
