Stephen was a good friend. As colleagues we often talked about classes, literary criticism, favorite authors and teaching methods. He was always interested in different points of view and I enjoyed our conversations at work. More, though, he was a friend with whom we shared drinks, meals, movies, and talks about his favorite team the Toronto Raptors, his enthusiasm for tennis and the latest Canadian stars, football and so much more. He also was always ready to lend a hand if we needed help at home or at our bookstore. He happily helped to sort hundreds and hundreds of books in our basement, was an enthusiastic supported of the store, and this led to even more fun conversations about books, history, politics, and sports. I am still in shock that he is gone. Stephen, rest well and know you will be missed.

Before COVID, I'd see Stephen often, and we'd have chats about school/work, life, music, family, etc. I was looking forward to getting back to that as we all work our ways out of this incredible time. I am deeply sorry that won't get to happen. RIP Stephen

I last saw Stephen at our English Dept. annual "Greasy Breakfast" in May. He asked what our plans were for the summer and shared what he had been up to. He always cared about others. He was a good, generous and very intelligent man. I will miss him dearly.
My deepest condolences to Stephen's wife, son and family.

Stephen was such a caring colleague who truly approached his students at Orange County Community College with patience and respect. He often stopped by my office for conversation about policy or ideas he had, or common courses we taught. I particularly remember when he excitedly announced the arrival of Mola to their family. So kind, so intelligent, and a true professional.
