Steve had been employed for 38 years with Butterball as a superintendant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rommie Mercer and Hazel Burkett Mercer, and being one of their three sons, his two brothers, Randy Mercer and Tommy Mercer, also preceded him in death.
Steve is survived by his wife, Luz Mercer; an aunt, Sheila Burkett of Kinston; a niece, Emilee Mercer Rouse and her husband, Jeremy Rouse, and their children, Emma and Jordan Rouse, all of the Mount Olive area; a sister-in-law, Dawn Waters Mercer of the Mount Olive area; and several cousins.
A service at which to remember Steve will be Sunday, November 9, at 3:30 p.m. at Long Ridge Free Will Baptist Church, Tram Road, Mount Olive. Officiating will be Pastor Kelvin Coates. A time of visitation and fellowship will follow the service.
