Steve Boyle was a person who instantly felt like a friend, and he had a knack for inspiring everyone around him. Moving from his beloved Hawaii to Oregon in 2012 was just the start of a new adventure for Steve and his equally spirited partner, June. From day one, they immersed themselves in their new community, generously offering their time and energy to other people.
Steve had a zest for life that showed in his countless activities. He loved tennis, golf, and later found joy in pickleball and bocce. Yet, his real passion shone through in organizing, leading, and participating in hikes, walks, and various get-togethers with his friends. Steve and June made a point to get to know their Oregon home deeply. They explored trails and new ventures, sharing their findings and excitement with others during group outings. Steve introduced many of his friends to a variety of local wonders such as the overnight stay at the Jawbone Flats mining camp in the Opal Creek Wilderness, a unique Oregon Coast Railriders self-pedaling railroad trip, and a landmark expedition to Fort Clatsop, Astoria, and Cape Disappointment that commemorated Lewis and Clark´s historic journey 210 years earlier.
Stephen Francis Patrick Boyle, passed away on Thursday, September 19th, 2024, at the age of 91. Steve leaves his beloved wife, June, their daughter Karen of Lake Oswego, and their son Brian of Cooke City, Montana. Steve was an Iowa native and proudly graduated from Iowa State University. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and then embarked on a long and successful career in the travel and hospitality industry. Steve and June called Honolulu, Hawaii their home for many years, where Steve managed the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel. Upon retiring, Steve and June built their dream home on the Big Island of Hawaii. Eventually, they felt the pull back to the mainland and chose to settle in Lake Oswego.
Steve´s unique greeting was always a hearty "Aloha," and that is how he bids us farewell - a heartfelt "Aloha" that will forever resonate in the hearts and lives of those he touched.
