Stephen Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 10, 2025.
Stephen Robert Smith passed away early on Monday, November 3, 2025, just one month before his 60th birthday. He was born on December 3, 1965, to Robert and Sharon Smith.

Stephen is survived by his parents, Bob and Sharon Smith; his brother, Craig Smith (Dixie); his sister, Sallee Prauser (Brent); and his nephew and nieces, Connor Smith (Maribeth), Kendra Christian (Austin), and Taylor Schubert (Jarred).

Steve graduated from Topeka West High School and attended both Washburn University and the University of Kansas. While at KU, he was a member of the KU bowling team and an accomplished bowler, earning many trophies over the years.

Steve built a successful career with Radio Shack, serving as a store manager in Raytown, Jefferson City, Kansas City, Independence, Columbia, and Wichita. In his later years, he lived in Basehor, Kansas, where he worked in construction and enjoyed spending time outdoors.

He married Michelle Bayliff in 2009. Though later separated, they remained in touch and shared a lasting friendship.

Steve will be deeply missed by his family-especially during holidays and family gatherings, where his presence, humor, and easygoing nature will be fondly remembered.

Private family services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Midwest Transplant Network (1900 W. 47th Place, Suite 400 Westwood, KS 66205) in honor of Steve's gift through organ donation.
