The family of Stephen F. Smith is saddened to announce his passing on Monday, January 12, 2026, in
Sebring, Florida. Born on August 15, 1957, in
Kearny, New Jersey, to Frederick and Margaret Smith, Steve grew up in Keyport, New Jersey, where he formed lifelong friendships - including the childhood bond that later became a year marriage to his wife, Catherine. Stephen met his wife, Catherine in Keyport, New Jersey while in grammar school.
Steve is survived by Catherine; his children, Amanda K. Yeager, Heather A. Grainger, and Damien J. Smith; his siblings, Tom, Ricky, and Michelle; and his 13 beloved grandchildren, who brought him endless joy. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend - a man of strong character, steady kindness, and a generous heart that was always ready to help others. He found simple happiness in the things he loved most: traveling, walking his dog Hope, enjoying social gatherings, and playing pétanque, a pastime that reflected his love of community and friendly competition.
"At 68, Steve lived as a good man, loving friend, brother, husband, father, and grandfather whose strong character and great heart were evident in the way he helped others. He fought the good fight, kept the faith, and blessed everyone who walked beside him."
Joshua 1:9 (NKJV) "Be strong and of good courage for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
