Stephen Ford Southworth, 76, passed away at home surrounded by family on Friday, August 23, 2024. Born in Georgetown, Kentucky to the late Martha Frances Baldwin Southworth and Joel Burdin Southworth, Jr. on November 7, 1947, Steve was a patriotic American. He loved arrowhead hunting and collecting, and finding shark teeth while walking on the beach. He loved his grandchildren and his great-grandbabies, and enjoyed working in his yard. Steve is a former member of the Long Lick Baptist Church and proud Veteran of the US Army during Vietnam. After retiring from IBM in Lexington with 25 years, he served and retired as a Deputy with the Scott County Sheriff Department. Steve was best known as the "Dancing Deputy". He will remain in the hearts of a generation of Scott Countians for entertaining and safely directing traffic for 14 years at the old SCHS entrance on US25.
Steve will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Patti Southworth; his son, Joey (Amy) Southworth, his daughter, Melanie (Dustan) Faircloth, both of Georgetown; two brothers, Jan (Rachel) Southworth of Sadieville, and Bradley Southworth of Richmond, a sister Amy (Shane) Conley of Georgetown, two sister-in-laws, Brenda (Monty) Adams, and Bernice Southworth; his grandchildren, Madison (Dallas) Southworth, Tanner Southworth, Trent Southworth, Abigail (Nick) Hall, and Allie Faircloth; his great-grandchildren, Dani Marie Southworth and Jack Hall; and many nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Barry Southworth, a brother-in-law, Ron Southworth, and a sister-in-law, Karen Southworth.
In keeping with Steve's final wishes, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are recommended to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, https://dogood.t2t.org/give/320847/. Friends and Family are encouraged to leave condolences and memories here on Steve's Tribute Wall.
