Stephen “Steve” Gene Harmon, 83, of Pendleton, formerly of New Castle, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, November 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 31, 1942, in New Castle, Indiana, Steve was the son of the late Arlen and Ruth (Harvey) Harmon.
He was a 1961 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School and a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Steve enjoyed a long and successful career with General Motors, retiring after 36 years of dedicated service.
Steve had a passion for life and a wide range of interests. He loved attending car shows and had a passion for Corvettes. Steve was a very particular man and had a fondness for collecting watches and shoes which fueled his joy of shopping. He also found enjoyment working in his yard, and engaging in conversation with everyone he met. Steve also loved animals and traveling especially to the beach. He was a lifelong member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Susie Harmon of Pendleton; children, Susan Harmon-Sanders of Pendleton, Jason Harmon of Pendleton, and Jamie Harmon of Pendleton; grandchildren, Rick Sanders of Middletown; great-grandson, Drew Sanders of New Castle; brother-in-law, Bobby Duvall of New Castle; relatives, Pam and Sam; many cousins, nieces, nephews; special friends, Mike and Melanie, Pam and Andy, and Josh.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, November 14, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.donorservices.alz.org or Christopher Reeves Foundation at www.christopherreeve.org. You may express condolences or share memories of Steve at www.hinsey-brown.com.
