BARBERTON - Stephen J. Tabaka Jr., passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025 at the age of 69.
Stephen was born July 12, 1955 in Youngstown, the son of the late Stephen J. and Frances Grusykowski Tabaka Sr.
Known for maintaining an immaculate home and an even more impeccable kitchen, Steve’s passion for cooking was a gift he shared with everyone to sit at his table. His wedding soup was a crowd favorite, while his Christmas and wedding cookies—especially his clothes pin cookies—remained a family tradition.
A true craftsman, Steve hand-built his first home in Columbiana with the help of family and friends, a testament to his work ethic, skill, and dedication. He poured love into every detail.
He had a spirit for adventure and a deep appreciation for spending time with his kids and grandkids. From cruising the Caribbean to weekend camping trips, he cherished both visiting new places and the joy of simply being together. Entertaining was his happy place. Whether it was a casual weekend gathering or a holiday feast, no one ever left his home hungry. His signature pizza on the grill was more than just a meal, it was an event, always made with love and served with pride.
His grandchildren, Brynn (7) and Nicholas (5) were the apple of his eye. Always enjoying something sweet at Papa’s house, getting spoiled each holiday, and spending time together.
He is survived by his children, Josh Tabaka of Columbus, OH and Brooke (Gregory) Ross of New Franklin, OH; grandchildren, Brynn and Nicholas Ross; sisters, Kathy (Tom) Voytko of New Middletown and Patty (Bill) Dey of New Waterford; brothers, Bob (Libby) Tabaka of Poland and Rich (Stephanie) Tabaka of New Middletown; sister-in-law Francine Tabaka of New Middletown and several nieces and nephews. Stephen will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Edward Tabaka.
Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 pm and Saturday from 9 to 10 am at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 am at the funeral home.
