It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Blake Whitney on Sunday July 13, 2025, at his home, with his wife and family by his side. Born on February 7, 1960, he was the son of Leslie Parkhurst, stepfather Hugh Parkhurst, and the late Russell "Kim" Whitney.

During his all too short fight with cancer, Steve was humbled by the many visits he received from new and old friends.

Steve was an intelligent and exuberant soul. He passionately pursued many diverse

interests in life. In his youth, he was involved in multiple sports. A graduate of Moses Brown School in RI, he was an all-star in hockey, football, and lacrosse. Later, he coached high school lacrosse, where his enthusiasm and emphasis on teamwork had made many of the team members become life-long friends.

For a brief time, Steve worked at the family's video rental store. People still remember him and his colorful parrot "Micky", who would say "pick it up" when anything dropped on the floor.

Steve was a well-known and talented fisherman. The ocean was "his office". Steve was a long time first mate on charter fishing trips aboard The Hard Merchandise, of Wicked Tuna fame. His passion and exuberance at sea, made his charter fishing trips a fun filled, unforgettable experience. He also loved going bass fishing, aboard his own boat with his good friend Joe Saracina.

Steve was a beloved member of Gloucester's recovery community. He made sure newcomers were greeted and made to feel at home. He had an insatiable desire for others to find success. His message was heartfelt, inspiring, hopeful, and contagious.

Steve waited a long time for love. In 2020 at the age 60, he married Sally Reagan. They were each others "dive buddy" in life, sharing a close trusting relationship. Their's was a bond of mutual support, and a deep appreciation of each other. They restored a home, and created a life together they both cherished and enjoyed. Steve and Sally were loyal, and fully devoted to each other. Above everything, they wanted for the other's happiness.

Steve will be sorely missed by everyone he had ever encountered, growing up, playing sports, fishing, recovering, family, and friends. He will remain in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, Dear One.

Steve is survived by his wife Sally; his mother, Leslie; a stepsister, Alison; brother-in-law, Steven Bell; stepbrother, Hugh Parkhurst; uncle, David W. Brown; aunt, Lindsay Pierce (Brad); cousins, Sean and Cody Burns, Randy Brown, Pamela and Howie Turnover, Hope Baker, Alison Swift, and Sandy Bigelow; father-in-law, Frank Reagan; sister-in-law, Maryjane O'Neill; and brother-in-law, Xavier Reagan.

He was predeceased by his father Kim Whitney, Stepfather Hugh Parkhurst, Aunt and Uncle Pam and Hop Swift, his Mother-in-Law Diane Reagan, grandparents Helen Porter and Myron Brown, and Harold and Francis Whitney.

Interment will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday August 26, at Castle Manor Inn, 141 Essex Avenue, Gloucester, from 4pm-7pm. Memorial donations may be made in Steve's memory to Shriners Children's Hospital, Office of Philanthropy, 51 Blossom St. Boston, MA 02114 Arrangements by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. Aw, Whit, this truly sucks. Cape Ann has lost a lot of color and vivacity since you cast off. You have no idea what a fond and lasting impression you made on so many. You were an unforgettable childhood friend, an inspiring and hilarious teammate, and an endlessly entertaining philosopher. You always knew how to make the pieces of the puzzle fit. With a heart as vast as the ocean and imagination to match, you brought light to life´s darkest moments. I wish you were here to help me navigate this `Whitless´ world now. I know you´re in a far better place, and I take solace in knowing we´ll meet again on that beautiful shore. Lenis navigationis.

What an incredible man Steve was! He made a fishing trip so special. Both my husband and I had an unforgettable adventure with laughter and fun when we fished because of Steve. What a genuine human being! Thank you, Steve!
Our condolences to Steve´s wife, Sally, his family, and all close friends.

What can i say. I knew Steve back when he worked in the video store. I had surgery and called him to reserve a golf game for my game system. Next thing i know he is knocking on my door and hand delivered it to me said keep as long as you need. He then got involved with professional fresh water bass fishing. It was after that he went striper fishing and was very successful at it. All though we did not see each other much i still held his friendship close. I am in tears writing this. RIP Steve. Go show god how to fish.
