Stephen John Wiedmann

Stephen John "Steve" Wiedmann was found deceased in his home on July 28th, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer and the grief of his mother's death that he never recovered from.

Steve was born on August 31, 1957 in Des Moines, Iowa, the 3rd of Paul and Barbara Wiedmann's 7 children. He grew up in St. Charles (with a brief stint in Longmont, CO), and graduated in 1975 from Interstate 35 Community School District as the class salutatorian. Following high school, Steve studied at the University of Iowa, with aspirations of becoming a lawyer. Unfortunately , this did not come to fruition, and he went on to work at Payless Cashways Lumber and then the Main Post Office in Des Moines. Due to health reasons, Steve had to retire early.

Survivors include his 3 children: Sean and Steven of Des Moines, and Natalie of Indianola, as well as his 6 siblings: Kathy Simmons (Bruce) of Truro, Patty Gahm (Dave) of Streator, Illinois, Wayne Wiedmann (Beth) of Des Moines, Deanna Strawn (Joel) of Truro, Jan Farlow of Indianola, and Angie Gray (John) of Chillicothe, Illinois, as well as several nieces, nephews and 3 grandchildren. He was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Paul and Barbara, and his grandparents William & Gladys Wiedmann and Earnest & LaVera Wilson.

Steve LOVED music, and a favorite game of his was his own special twist on "Name That Tune" - Who's This? He had a great memory for songs and artists, and also usually knew what album the song was on and the year it came out. He was an Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs fan, and also enjoyed fishing. He was also known for his "award winning" baked beans and his sinful chocolate lava cake that he loved to make.

A casual celebration of life was held on Saturday, August 2nd at his sister Jan's home in Indianola, where family and friends shared memories of Steve while listening some of his favorite music. His cremains will be scattered at his favorite fishing spot on Middle River, where he had many fond memories of fishing with his dad and brother Wayne.

"If there's a rock and roll heaven, you know they've got a hell of a band", and I know you're thoroughly enjoying it. See you on the Other Side...
