Sterling Black Obituary

Sterling Black, 80, of Holts Summit, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026 surrounded by family and friends.

She was born September 12, 1945, the daughter of the late James and Mary (Robinett) Black. She was a 1964 graduate of Fulton High School. Sterling dedicated 30 years of service to Fulton State Hospital, where she worked faithfully until her retirement. After retiring Sterling went on to work for a variety of establishments. The most cherished was a cook for McIntyre Elementary. She adored the children and staff.

Sterling found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved cooking and baking for those she cared about, trying her luck with scratcher tickets and slot machines, and, most of all, spending cherished time with her family and friends. Her warmth, laughter, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Gerald Chambers (Joyous); her daughters, Natalie Russell (the late Robert "Bobby" Russell), Terry Chambers, and Kimberly Brandt; her sister, Norma Glover; sister-in-law, Violet Black and her beloved grandchildren, FranKeisha Bryant, Natasha Russell, RonNicka Bryant, Frank Bryant IV, Gerald "Tye" Chambers II, Kendall Brandt Jr., Robert "Trey" Russell, Kennedi Brandt, Kendria Brandt-Cooper, and Kori Chambers and supportive friend, David Greene.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Barbara Black, Mamie (Cornell Sr.) Pasley, Lorraine Black, Earnestine (Melvin) Ellington, Jaquelyn (William) Richmond, and Estella (James Sr.) Henderson; and her brothers, James (Katherine) Black Jr., William Black, John Black, Sidney Black, and Charles (Annette) Black, James W. Black, and James C. Black.

Sterling Black will be remembered for her love of family, her generous spirit, and the lasting impact she made on those around her. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Calvalier Choir, She was also an active member of WMU. Most of all she will be remembered for her culinary skills.

Friends and family will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Southside Baptist Church. An additional visitation will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Elder Larry Vaughn Jr. officiating. Burial will take place at Southside Cemetery.
