Sterling Joseph Mitchell passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the age of 58. He was the beloved husband of Katherine Boone Mitchell for 15 years. He was a proud and loving father to Niki Palmeri (Matthew) and Masen Mitchell, and a devoted bonus father to Isaiah Hicks (Michelle) and Easton Vincent. He was a devoted and proud grandfather to Brayden Mitchell, Averi Palmeri, and Corra Palmeri, who brought him immense joy. Sterling was the cherished brother of Shyra Mitchell and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling Joseph Mitchell Sr. and Ellen Kastner; his grandmother, Eva Ziegler Mitchell; and his grandfather, Voris Joseph Mitchell. He was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Eva Ziegler Mitchell, whose guidance and care played a profound role in shaping the man he became.
Sterling was born on June 19, 1967, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and later made his home in Carriere, Mississippi, following Hurricane Katrina.
He will be forever remembered as a man of unwavering devotion to his family. A true patriarch, Sterling’s greatest joy in life was the time he spent with those he loved. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was constant and deeply felt.
He also had a passion for rock music, especially KISS, Metallica, and Ozzy Osbourne, and was a dedicated Raiders football fan. These simple joys, along with his strong presence and love for family, defined who he was. Whether through his quiet strength, his presence, or the simple moments he shared, he made those around him feel safe, valued, and deeply loved. The bond he shared with his family will never be broken.
Sterling’s absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but his love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. In honoring Sterling’s wishes, the family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
