Steve Betanzos Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ammen Family Cremation & Funeral Care - Melbourne on Jan. 20, 2024.
Obituary of Steve Betanzos
Steven Betanzos,63, of Melbourne, Florida passed away on January 9, 2024. Born on December 2, 1960, to Richard and Cornelia Betanzos in Brooklyn New York, at 6 months, raised on Long Island where he lived all but the last few years of his life. Steven was preceded in death by our loving parents, Richard and Cornelia, and brother Robert Betanzos. Survivors include his siblings, Richard(Mary) Betanzos of NY, Paul (Pam) Betanzos of CA, Bonnie (Rick) Radigan of NY, Susan(John)Tompkins of Fl, 8 nieces and nephew and 14 great nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Stormy. Steven worked right out of school with his best friend John Serigano in John's family business where he was always treated as a son and brother, not like an employee. To say that he will be missed is truly an understatement, something that I have been learning a lot over this week of his passing. He had a heart of gold, a smile that lit up a room, and a gift that every child and animal wanted to be around. I could write a book about being his sister, like when I went to the ball games he and Robert played in, when he was my date when our niece Marlene got married when he moved in with me when I moved back to NY for a while to when he moved to Fl. I hold all of it in my heart now along with knowing you are at peace. Steven was a son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend but most of all he was loved by all who knew him. His greatest love his whole life was his YANKEES. This baseball season when the subway series happens between those Mets and Yankees I can see it now Daddy and Robert (METS) Mommy and You (YANKEES) and I smile for it is God's turn now to keep the peace between the four of you! For anyone who would like to do something in Steven's name, he was fond of Florida Aid to Animals.
A Memorial service will be held at a later date in Long Island NY.

In high school, some of the girls and I on the basketball team had a crush on him and used to tell our parents our practice ended half an hour later [to be picked up] than it did... so we could watch him on the court a couple of times a week... Rest in peace Steve. Love and prayers to all his family and loved ones.

I played a lot of baseball with and against Steven. He was the consummate pitcher. He was ahead of the rest of us as far as smarts and athletic ability. One of Suffolk Counties' best. When I think about my baseball playing days I enevetably remember Steven. My warmest regards and condolences to his family and friends.

Sending my deepest condolences and sympathies to the entire Betanzos family. Steve was an awesome guy, who I truly will miss. I spent many days on the field or basketball court with him, admiring his natural ability!! He was a great athlete and an even better friend. I haven´t seen him in quite a few years but will definitely remember the great times I spent with him...my heart is so sad to hear this. Rest in peace my brother...Steve Picascio
