Steve Black Obituary
Steve was born on January 7, 1936 in Norman, OK, a son of Nelms and Marjorie Stanbury Black. On April 2, 2001, he married Barbara Gorby Ancelet in Quincy. She survives.
Steve graduated from high school in 1954 in Arcadia, CA. Following graduation, Steve enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed his basic training at The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) in Twentynine Palms, CA. Steve was honorably discharged after two years of service.
Steve attended Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, CA, and he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English from Cal State LA.
Steve returned to his family's roots in Quincy, where he taught at Quincy College and Culver Stockton College. Steve taught art and all facets of English, including composition, literature, and speech.
Steve never stopped learning, and he had a life-long interest in art, history, politics, and music. Steve was an aficionado of classical music, with Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven being among his favorites. He was also a voracious reader. Steve had a special interest in spirituality, and he read numerous books on the topic. Vernon Howard was one of his favorite authors.
Steve will be remembered as a kind and generous soul.
In addition to his wife, Barb, survivors include two daughters: Alexis Black Holliday and Jordan (Cody) Black Todd, both of Austin, TX; two stepchildren: Jeffrey (Ellen) Ancelet of Bloomington, IL and Amy (Adin) Sloan of Quincy; and two granddaughters: Quincy and Payton Bellman.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Black, and a grandson, Zachary Bellman.
Visitation: There will be no visitation, but friends are invited to the memorial service.
Memorial Service: To be announced.
Memorials: Quincy Symphony Orchestra. Steve was very proud of Quincy's musicians, and he felt that they could rival those of St. Louis and Chicago. Memorial donations may be made online at: https://memorials.hansenspear.com/.
