I´ve known Steve since he was a 12 year old can kicker from Sac, me, a Catholic girl a year ahead in school. He was my best friend´s best friend. Everything written in his obituary is spot on. I really loved Steve , and we did a lot together as kids. He always presented with the same warm and fabulous grin, and whenever he walked into a party, everybody knew he was there, without him saying a word( he was the party. Steve was peace, he was kind, he couldn´t help but be popular and he was beloved. I was shocked to find that he is gone. I was just going to call him, I looked for his phone number, found he has left the earth, his loving self no longer corporeal, but his boundless energy alive and well. He´s okay now, still grinning. I really loved him.

This really saddens me. We just saw him at dinner, he shared his amazing bottle of wine with us.
It was so nice to see him after so many years.

I knew Steve for over 50 years.
When we were kids riding bikes, he was Steve.
During high school we called him Bledz.
Later on, we called him "Ray" actually, we all were Ray :)
Through all that time, I always called him friend!
I never heard him talk bad about anyone. He always had a smile on his face positive attitude and was up for fun.
I tossed him around in boats, racecars and everything else! I´ve seen his eyes more wide open than anyone probably!
I am in utter shock over this. We had plans for him to come to Thailand with us this winter.
Right now, I imagine Steve sitting in heaven´s version of Dimitriou's Jazz Alley. He has a nice full wine glass from some great vineyard In France that he probably went to, He´s sitting back very comfortable with a big smile on his face probably listening to Larry Carlton.... Or maybe Tower of Power.:)
He accomplished a lot in his life, and he was so proud of his children and grandchildren.
Hey Ray, we have unfinished business. See you on the other side brother

Steve was our neighbor I am so heartbroken to hear of his passing ! He was an amazing person , our girls loved Steve they would bring him art work and he would proudly show it off he would have them do yard work and pay them always sending them home with soda or some kind of treat , Steve also took interest in our dog they had a unique relationship lol I would find him bringing her bones and treats always visiting and talking to her and she would try and jump the fence to get to him lol I have so many fond memories he was our friend , last summer he had given me tomatoe starts and gave me the run down on where there from and tips to take care of them ! my husband would always bring our friends over there and Steve would greet us with a drink and a smile ! I can´t believe I won´t ever see him again. I will always cherish his friendship.

Steve had a profound effect on me in the most wonderful ways both professionally and personally in the wine industry. We would laugh telling stories in the course of our work day, he always had an interesting anecdote to share from his first hand life experience. His glory days of selling Drouhin in the 80s was a common one, but I never grew tired of hearing them. An avid fan of music, he would share different renditions of songs he and his friends "decomposed" or revamped with funny lyrics. He loved his family very much and that only grew after he became a Grandpa. He moved to Spokane as did I to Portland, but whenever we got together it felt like reuniting with family. My face would hurt by the end of the night from smiling and laughing so hard. Thank you for all that you did, the kindness you freely gave, and the wonderful memories you gave me that I will deeply cherish. I will miss you very much my friend, you truly were one of a kind, mullet and all!

I´ve known Steve for forty years or so. We partied and ate our way through this world with his late best friend Dave Clark. When I needed a job other than playing music, he got me one in the wine business and we later worked together as well.
He taught me my first Demi Glacé. Ash and Alex were his pride and joy!
He will be missed but still present in our hearts and minds when we sip a good wine, eat a fabulous meal, or enjoy live music!

Wonderfully written! I've known Steve since 1998 and he was a frequent house-guest when he was in Seattle after moving back to Spokane. We shared a love of cooking, wine and live music and I'll miss him terribly. Always a positive attitude and kind and generous. We'll raise a toast with the last bottles he left in my cellar in his honor and memory!
Sincerest condolences to Ashley, Alex, Ed and the rest of the family.

Steve was quite a guy, the day we met, he was workin' behind a deli counter and he was a ball of fire. We were immediately friends. We saw each other quite frequently when he moved to Seattle and who ever wrote the obit. was right on, always the life of the party even if it was a party of two. Incredible chef that blessed us with the best meals. I will dearly miss him.
