Steve Douglas Geddes, 81, of rural Hinton, IA, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars, IA, surrounded by his family. Born on May 9, 1944, near Ponca, NE, Steve was the son of Donald and Delores (Turman) Geddes. Steve's early years were marked by frequent moves with his family, but he ultimately graduated from Hinton High School in 1960 at the age of 16. Following graduation, he served in the Air Guard.

Steve’s journey throughout life was marked by dedication, hard work, and a profound love for his family. He began his long career with Iowa Public Service, now known as MidAmerican Energy, on November 12, 1968. Over the years, he was a dedicated employee and an active member of the union.

On September 6, 1969, Steve was united in marriage to Susan R. (Dybdahl) Geddes in Sioux City. Together, they built a life filled with love and pride, raising two children. Steve and Susan cultivated a beautiful home east of Hinton, where they embraced the joys of rural living together. Susan passed away on May 10, 2010, a loss that deeply affected Steve.

In his personal life, Steve held his family as the utmost priority, particularly his beloved grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as "Papa," a term chosen to create a sense of youthfulness rather than aging. Steve will be remembered by his signature trademark—a blue zip-up hoodie that he wore all the time.

Beyond his career and family, Steve nurtured a passion for vehicles, especially Chevy, and could often be found discussing cars with enthusiasm. His love for vehicles extended to the auto parts store, where he spent many joyful moments. In his younger years, he enjoyed participating in tractor pulls.

Steve is survived by his son, Scott Geddes and wife Tara of Hinton; his daughter, Sarah Phelan and husband Brandon of Le Mars; six grandchildren: Delaney Geddes, Brooklyn Geddes, Addyson Geddes, Chloey Geddes, Easton Geddes, and Brooks Phelan; one brother; one sister, and a nephew, Heath Albert and wife Jennifer. He is also survived by many other loved family members, nieces and nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Susan.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will start at 12:30 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Rademacher Cemetery near Hinton.
